| In Palm Beach County, 5% of the elementary schools showed a sigificant increase of .3 or more in their combined average in 2004. The only schools with making gains implemented SMILE. Heritage and Roosevelt adopted SMILE in the FY 2002-2003 while the other schools adopted SMILE in FY 2003-2004. All curriculum groups (ESE/ESOL) are included in scores. The combined average in the State of Florida in 2003 was a 3.6 and in 2004 it increased to a 3.7. In 2004, the statewide combined average of students scoring 3.5% and above is 69%. |

Wynnebrook Elementary - Writing Gains Using SMILE

Prior to implementing SMILE, the 4th grade students scored a 2.8 combined average on the 2001 FCAT Write Test. As a result of implementing SMILE in the second through fouth grades during FY 2001-2002, the 2002 combined average soared to a 3.4. In 2003, the combined average vaulted to a 3.9.
Wynnebrook Elementary is a Title I school. 79 percent of the students receive free and reduced lunch. |
